In the spirit of neon, I should mention that I was able to get a bright 
pink glow from a NE-2 bulb some years ago by pumping a bit too much current 
thru it. No idea how long it will last under those conditions, but it was 
interesting. I guess it's time to test a few bulbs to see if it's 
reproducible, and take a peek with a spectroscope.

Not quite magenta, and not an LED, but definitely neonixie.....
