I used to be very active in the HV & Tesla world (still do a bit of that).
We regularly used to get TV/film folk asking for "loan" of HV kit - its a nightmare - the insurance alone is prohibitive, and as you say, they expect it all at cost or less, i.e. for the honour/fun of "contributing". This is a cheap way of filling programming slots - like so-called "car-crash" television - costs little to produce and is mostly fabricated. Storage Wars has been continually dogged by allegations from former production staff that stuff was planted in the lockers to add interest to an otherwise tedious & repetitive "storyline"..
