Well, the programs just make dodging, burning, fading, silver mask jobs etc easier. Nothing wrong with using all the tools - there are some subjects that can't be photographed well enough no matter what the photographer's skills. Just because air-brushing was overused doesn't outlaw it.
Face it - even use of a polariser IS cheating. Actually, it all comes back to the specification for the print/photograph. What did the customer require?
