When Grahame showed his E1T clock design here recently it reminded me of my
own experiments with the E1T many years back when I found out about it from
Ronald Dekker, www.dos4ever.com.

I planned on making a clock which only used E1Ts as counting elements and
nothing else that counted time, just pulse shapers and such between the
E1Ts, but since I almost never finish any project (I loose interest when I
have solved the problem with the design) it will probably never be
finished..... The circuit is not finished in any way, just a prototype I
made up a long time ago which I now dug up to show a little talked about
fact about the E1Ts, you can have them count backwards by applying a
negative pulse to the D electrode (mentioned in Philips books and other
literature). The circuit also uses the fact that you can preset the E1T to
any value you want by applying the correct voltage to the D'/a2 electrodes,
so when the E1T reaches 0 it presets back to 9.

I just put four videos up on YouTube where you can see both forward
(normal) and reverse counting, both with the E1T itself and with some
videos of my old oscilloscope showing the voltages on the D'/a2 pins.
