I could use MQTT, but this is just integrated to Home Assistant.
I already use the light sensor of my Numitron clock (from Moses @ 
neonixie.com) to adjust the intensity of my nspanel display used as night 
clock placed on my nightstand.
I use the value of the topic "clock/neonixie/iv9clock-67ac/lux" to adjust 
it. so during the night, the display is just at 5% of brightness.
