Hi Pete! Wonder if it could be residue from a "contact cleaner" spray that
someone was using on the Molex connectors? Just a WAG.

another data point (or clue) here is the buss assign modules are totally
clean. sounding a *bit* more like something that was sprayed all over
these parts on purpose.

another issue...
the molex connectors i sourced for replacement are a perfect fit except
for the fact that the holes are a bit smaller than the original ones,
making seating the modules next to impossible. gah.
