I should say that these are not ideal because there is no support for the channel's weight. This can be stressful for the motherboard connections, which we all know don't need anymore reasons to fail. It works in a pinch though.
I use a bipolar bench supply to test a solitary, sick channel until it's healthy enough to join the flock. Here is the crude one made by the last tech here (you need 2). It is made with the same 90ยบ headers and sockets used in the console. It hasn't failed us in the last 15 years. Jeez, I have been working here that long!
