My $0.25:
This did not used to be true, but has been so for a number of years
now. Once PCs started having reasonable bus speeds the game was up.
And has been iterated before: You can't beat a SPARC for stability
purposes.
Now, recently, I've come to the conclusion that it's not even really
worth running Solaris any more. You almost might as well slap
OpenBSD/FreeBSD on that SPARC simply because the mechanisms for
keeping your machine up to date with the latest open source software
are superior to Sun's. Sunfreeware.com does not have everything. In
fact, it's missing a *lot*. Latest version of postfix is 99.
Conclusion? I guess form your own, but I think that the days of
Solaris as a OS platform for the mid-range are over. It's space is
properly at the high-end where a lot of it's advanced features have
no competition from the likes of Linux/FreeBSD/OpenBSD.
And this has nothing to do with nessus.... :)
