Thanks Doug - it looks like I've got some work to do.

I've got an old spare p100 laptop which is no longer any use for anything
except this.

I cannot put a full copy of Linux on it so I am scouting around for a cut
down and came across Vector Linux it installs in 250mb. I guess I'll have to
add in the other bits I need and hopefully it will not blow the disk
(.79gb).

I told you it was old !!!!

assuming that you have gcc and libpcap, it should work. I don't think 
it requires a lot more than that. If you take a look at

http://www.nessus.org/posix.html

You can find the requirements. You like have to compile it, but it 
should work.
