This specific type of question has history, going as far back as usenet
and (free) support mailing lists themselves.

Through the ages, 'FAQs' have been written to address, well, the
Frequently asked questions.

Yes, sometimes simple questions can be answered in 5 or 10 minuites, but
just the same, that simple question could be answered in 5 or 10 mins of
research.

Now, there might be no harm in asking, but don't expect a quick reply to a
simple question, and don't take offense if you get a snide remark, or
don't get impatient if you question isn't answered right away.

After all, the people answering you also work 50-60 hours per week.
