I don't seem to have the same problem when scanning for default port range 1-1027 on the same servers. When I bump up the port range to 1-65535 it hangs.. Also when I scan only 2-3 boxes with the 65535 port range it goes through a little quicker.
Now seems to get stuck on UDDI.nasl.. If I remove UDDI it gets stuck on ssl_ciphers I also noticed the log is killing a process that has not responded.. port_shell_execution.nasl is slow to finish - killing it and a couple other nasl plugins.. Do these plugins rescan the box using the same port range or does this plugin just take forever to complete.. Seems like the port range has a lot to do with my problem..
