Agreed.  I thought of that as I was writting the orginal e-mail, that 
ther would be people out there that for some reason or another just 
plain wouldn't want that and they would need the option to not have 
it.

I guess the point being that that with as little traffic as possible it 
would be really, valuable to know that an attack is

1) still alive and not dead
2) that it has progressed (preferrably by some unit of measure - 
such as an %)

  Having the attack a black-box that starts and may or may not 
finish sometime might work for command-line/cron jobs, but doesn't 
work for the folks using the UIs.
