The best way is to use Nessus's TCP Ping plugin, set to ping the
"built-in" destination port. (ie: in 'Prefs->TCP ping', disable ICMP
ping, and enable TCP ping, and set "built-in" as the default port).
This makes Nessus send a bunch of SYN packets to various ports, such as
80, 443, 22, 25 (and more), with proper source ports.
