Someone brought up a thought: They would like scheduled scans on their internal lan to happen at night (not impact the users) but most/many/a lot of the users turn off their pc's at night.
They asked if we could do Wake-on-lan prior to the scan. Now, I know that if we did the 'scan by mac addy', it would be possible to write a nessus plugins, and modify all the 'port scanners' to call it as a dependencies, (with a what, 5 min timeout?) and that could do the trick. Any other ideas? I think a separate table of 1000 mac addresses or a 'mac scan'/brute force targeting all known mac addresses might be excessive. -- Michael Scheidell SECNAP Network Security 561-368-9561 x 1131 www.secnap.com
