In the past I've tried importing Nmap results into Nessus however it always seemed to rerun Nmap (i.e., doing a ps -ef | grep nmap showed several nmap processes running). Generally, I've used the Select button in the Prefs. tab to select the file containing the Nmap results (tried both the human readable and gnmap formats). Others have recommended that in the Scan Options tab, checking "Consider unscanned ports as closed". I tried experimenting with these options and more, but can't seem to get consistent results. Sometimes the Nmap process doesn't run, but most of the time it does. I understand that seeing the Nmap process doesn't necessarily mean a full Nmap scan is running. If this is the case, how do you verify if a full Nmap scan is indeed running or not.

Another related question - does Nessus just use the host list from Nmap or does it also pull the open port results as well? I would hope that it does the later.

Thanks for you help.

M.
