scanning XP-SP2

Has anyone else had the experience that when scanning XP-SP2 systems, the 
portscan just seems to hang and will not finish?  I assume this is due to 
the newly enabled 'Firewall' but I am wondering why nessus doesn't just find 
the ports closed or filtered and move on?
