PDS NURTURES MENTOR-STUDENT TEACHING TEAMS
Student teachers are a familiar sight in classrooms, but Penn State's
Professional Development School (PDS) has retooled the traditional
program, allowing educators like State College, Pa., teacher Brenda
Khayat and education major Tracey Traeger to work more as a collaborative
team. PDS is an expanding movement nationwide designed to transform the
manner in which teachers are prepared through shared efforts of schools
and universities. Penn State is one of the few institutions to offer
undergraduate seniors a yearlong teacher internship program that replaces
the traditional semester of student teaching. For the full story by Paul
Blaum, visit
