We've just posted a new virtual field trip that you may want to add to your bag of tricks for the coming school year. Teacher's Forms & Templates Field Trip Go to: www.field-trips.org and click on Featured Field Trip This field trip was inspired by and created from an article written by Linda Starr, featured in Education World®, 10/17/2001, © 2001 Education World. When I read the article, all I kept thinking was what a wonderful resource tool it would be in the form of a virtual field trip. DESCRIPTION: In this virtual field trip, you will find the best sources for often-used and hard-to-find printable teacher templates, such as welcome letters to parents, seating charts, award certificates, blank country & state maps, hall passes, student progress updates, substitute teacher resources, flash cards, and so much more! All in one neat, organized package. I've also added a Permission Slip for virtual field trips. This form will work for any virtual field trip on the Web, not just the trips at our site. It's a nice way to inform parents about their child's online explorations and perhaps invite them to co-explore with their child at home. You are more than welcome to print and use this for your classes. It's a pdf file and you can get it at: http://www.field-trips.org/trips.htm (If you don't have Acrobat Reader, there's a handy link to download that as well.) The Center will be soon offering an alternative -- Congress in the Classroom(r) Online. This online workshop will provide the same rich content about Congress presented by experts; content that we invite to be used and adapted for classrooms. Of course we can't replicate the face-to-face energy of the workshop, but participants will have the chance to interact with colleagues from across the country through message boards and e-mail. We intend for the online workshop to deliver useful information to more teachers than we could possibly reach in our current workshop. Congress in the Classroom(r) Online will be organized as a series of separate but related topical units. They will be loosely grouped around the twin themes of representation and lawmaking, two primary roles of members of Congress. While offering this online workshop, The Center is interested in receiving accreditation for this course. Can anyone provide any guidance on this can be achieved? The Center hopes to kick-off this program in the fall, but would like to seek accreditation first. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Sincerely, Cindy Koeppel The Dirksen Congressional Center --- Edtech Archives, posting guidelines and other information are at: http://www.h-net.msu.edu/~edweb Please include your name, email address, and school or professional affiliation in each posting. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Jul 2002 07:56:25 -0500 From: Gleason Sackmann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: MISC> [netsites] WinXP Security Check List From: Janis Rose [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, August 09, 2002 12:44 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [netsites] WinXP Security Check List "Although Windows XP Professional is built on the Windows 2000 kernel, there are significant differences between the operating systems - especially when it comes to security. The FCC wants consumers to know that there are programs available to help low income households have access to a phone. The FCC kicked off *Get Connected: Afford-A-Phone,* a national public education campaign to inform income eligible consumers about the Lifeline Assistance Program (Lifeline) and Link-Up America (Link-Up). The Lifeline and Link-Up programs provide discounts on initial telephone installation and basic monthly telephone service to qualifying low-income consumers. The FCC*s *Get Connected: Afford-A-Phone* campaign is providing information to potential Lifeline and Link-Up subscribers through federal, state, tribal and local governments, social service, community, and faith-based organizations. Low-income consumers are encouraged to contact their local phone companies to see if they are eligible to receive Lifeline and Link-Up discounts. Consumer questions can be directed to the FCC by writing Get Connected: Afford-A-Phone, FCC, Washington, DC 20554, calling 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322)-voice, 1-888-TELL-FCC (1-888-835-5322)-TTY, or visiting the Get Connected: Afford-A-Phone Web site at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/getconnected. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Jul 2002 08:04:25 -0500 From: Gleason Sackmann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: K12> School library day From: School Library Media & Network Communications [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Barbara Braxton Sent: Wednesday, July 24, 2002 12:00 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: School library day International School Libraries Day is October 28 this year - the 4th Monday in the month. The theme is 021.7 Library MATTERS and participants are being encouraged to share the things that they do to promote the integration of their library's services into the school curriculum. (021.7 is the Dewey number for library promotion) Schools will also be encouraged to continue their plantings for the Growing the Future project begun last year. I will be promoting this more in August-September as northern hemisphere schools return and start to think about the new school year.
