Project Level: Basic

Curriculum Area: Arts, Business, Community Interest, History and Social
Studies, Information Technology, Language, Mathematics, Technology,
Vocational Education

Technologies Used: Email, IRC or Other Real-Time Chat, Web Based
Discussion Forum

Project Sponsor: No sponsor

Full Project Description:
This is a class to class exchange of postcards (snail mail or
electronic). The project creates an opportunity to foster global
friendships and can become a gateway to class to class exchanges of all
kinds. This is the twelfth year this project has been conducted. It is
well established and provides an excellent "entry level" project for
teachers and classes new to the internet.

The project is free of charge and open to all learning groups
in the world. However, join only if you have a serious desire to
participate and a commitment to complete your project obligation.

When we finish exchanging postcards (in Feb. 2002),
participants will be offered extensions to further student learning.
These include the "Mystery Class Game", online chats, and other
interactive activities. We will also, collectively, build a Project
Gallery which reflects the learning experience of all our participants.
A teacher discussion list establishes an educator community for sharing
information and for problem solving.

Objectives:
Teaching Standards: With effective classroom implementation and
management, this project enables or enhances teaching to the following
National Social Studies Standards:

People Places and Environment
Global Connections
Culture

Meets many NETS Standards
(depending on individual implementation plan of participant)

Specific standards are addressed on the "How to Participate" page on
the project web site.

Subject: [DIG_REF] Bernie Sloan's Digital Reference Pages

Over the past several years I have compiled a number of Web resources
dealing with the topic of online or virtual or digital reference
services. I
now have enough links that I decided it might be a good idea to create
an
index to these resources.

This Web page offers links to those resources of mine that I think are
the
most useful:
