Sept. 17 is the 215th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. The Mini Page lists 13 steps to signing the Constitution and 2 important events following that, Washington becoming President & the addition of the Bill of Rights in 1791. There is also an explanation for the Separation of Powers showing the Three Articles delineating the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Branches. PLEASE NOTE: I have been posting reminders about the Mini Page when they feature a topic I think will be of special interest to Netters. If you have found this reminder helpful, please let me know and I will continue to post reminders to the listserv. If not, I won't waste any more bandwidth! ;) Thanks! The Mini Page is a newspaper insert for (American)children featured on a weekly basis. It may be tucked in with the Sunday cartoon section, or may appear during the week, depending on your newspaper's choice. If they don't carry it, call and ask that they consider doing so (& be sure to write & thank them if they do!) at least on a trial basis. The Mini Page is distributed by Universal Press Syndicate. Your local newspaper should be able to contact them with that information. Kids at my school love them! Most Mini Page editions feature a main theme that will not go out of date quickly, with a small feature inside of current interest to kids, along with puzzles & an easy recipe. Once laminated they last for years. Joanne Ladewig, Library Aide (A.K.A. "Library Lady") Lawrence Elementary, G.G.U.S.D. I know this might seem a little off-topic, but I wanted to post it here since many of you took part in my SEPT11INFO list last year. Also, I was wondering if any of receive the St. Paul Pioneer Press newspaper at home or work; I'd like to get a copy of the original story, so if you have a copy and wouldn't mind mailing it to me, please drop me an email off-list... thanks! - ac HISTORY AS IT HAPPENS: 9/11 VOICES ONLINE "Email preserved them on Sept. 11 like insects frozen in amber," writes Leslie Brooks Suzukamo, describing the emotions and thoughts of Internet users who participated in the SEPT11INFO discussion group one year ago. SEPT11INFO, a Yahoogroups email forum created by the Benton Foundation's Andy Carvin in the hours following the September 11 attacks, captured the comments of citizens from around the world as they responded to the horrific event. In the first 12 hours of the discussion, group members posted over 600 messages to the forum, including eyewitness reports, offers of assistance and expressions of fear, anxiety and rage. Carvin wrapped up the forum in February after the discussion died off, but recently donated the group's entire catalogue of emails to the September 11 Digital Archive, an effort by historians to preserve the vast amounts of digital content created in response to the attacks. "What's important about this listserv and listservs like it is that Sept. 11 was the first major event of the Internet age," says Tom Scheinfeldt, director of the September 11 Digital Archive. "It's the first time historians have access to real-time and spontaneous reactions to an event as it was happening."
