Then in the middle of November they are given details of 6 to 10 other classes to exchange Christmas cards and email messages with in November and December. The classes will be similar in age but spread around the world. The cards can be accompanied by letters and pictures. The emails are all in their group. ------------------- Project Details ------------------- Project Level: Basic Curriculum Area: Community Interest, History and Social Studies, Information Technology Technologies Used: Email Full Project Description: Cards 2002. Cards 2002 is an Internet project organised on behalf of Libanus Primary School, designed to assist children from ages 4 to 11 to grasp something of the size of our world and the instant way in which use of the Internet can connect communities. With the younger children it is an case of the teachers demonstrating, but with the older children most of the emails can be made by the children themselves. In schools were English is being taught as a second language, slightly older pupils are welcome to allow for language difficulties. This is the second year this project will be run from Libanus, details of last years project can be found at http://www.libanus.powys.sch.uk/reso3.html previously it had been run for three years on behalf of Glasbury School, with further details at http://www.glasbury.powys.sch.uk/int.html How it works. Information is circulated as widely as possible using various project boards etc. to locate other schools across the world interested in participating. Those Schools interested in taking part are asked to send an email including :- * Name and full postal address of the school, as well as a short general description of the school, including it's size and any special features of the school and the area it is in. * Basic details of each class wishing to join in, this included age and number of pupils and the name of the adult co-ordinator or teacher for the class. The email address to be used for each class taking part. * The date the school would break up for the Christmas holidays. From the responses groups of between six to ten participating classes will be put together. ( At least six to allow for schools dropping out and still maintaining contrasts, more than ten will get too complex.) Every attempt will be made to create as diverse a group in terms of location and as identical a group in terms of age range as possible. Details of these groups will be emailed to all schools in the project in the second week of November. During November each school in a group posts one Christmas card to each of the 5 to 9 other schools in their group. The cards could be purchased or made by the pupils, often other items like pictures of the class, or letters about their Christmas plans are included. (The early date for the cards is to allow for schools in the Southern Hemisphere which break up for their long holidays at the start of December.) Emails to all the other 5 to 9 schools in a group are then used to exchange information about the progress of the cards. When cards are posted an email is sent announcing this. As cards are received emails were sent to announce this as well. (N.B. All these emails are to all the schools in a group this helps to create a flow of email keeping up pupil interest and to avoid problems if one or two schools in a group drop out.) Objectives: Designed to assist children from ages 4 to 11 to grasp something of the size of our world and the instant way in which use of the Internet can connect communities. It also assists with developing the skill of using email. ------------------- Project Registration Information -------------------------------- Project Email Address: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Registration Acceptance Dates: 9/01/02 to 11/21/02 Number of Classrooms: No limit Age Range: 5 to 12 years Target Audience: Anyone Project URL: http://www.libanus.powys.sch.uk/reso3.html Registration Instructions: Send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] using the subject, Cards 2002, and Containing * Name and full postal address of the school, as well as a short general description of the school, including it's size and any special features of the school and the area it is in. * Basic details of each class wishing to join in, this included age and number of pupils and the name of the adult co-ordinator or teacher for the class.
