Is there a specific Johnny Appleseed "day"?
And is there a single fire prevention day or else a
week?

If the answer is yes, of course the next question is
when?

FTC and DOD Launch "Military Sentinel"

Online Consumer Complaint Database Designed to Help Combat Fraud
Targeting the Military Community

The Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Defense today
announced the launch of Military Sentinel, the first online consumer
complaint database specifically tailored to the unique needs of the
military community. Located at www.consumer.gov/military, this new system
is designed to give military service members in all parts of the world a
convenient way to report fraud directly to law enforcement officials.
Military Sentinel will facilitate the prosecution of cases by providing
detailed information on consumer fraud and ID theft to more than 550
members of the Consumer Sentinel system, including both military and
non-military law enforcement agencies in the United States, Australia,
and Canada. Sentinel also will assist policymakers at both the DOD and
the FTC by providing the capability to collect and analyze specific
service-related information.

A newly launched PBS web site, Global Connections, can help teachers, high
school students, and others clarify the mystery of the Middle East. The site
features an interactive timeline which highlights key events of the 20th
century and is triggered by the questions we all wonder about (e.g., What
factors determine the changing roles of women in the Middle Ease and Islamic
societies? What is the appeal of religious militancy) or important themes
such as religion, culture, economics, science A flash map allows you to
see changing borders as you move between 1600 and 2002. Teachers will find
six well-developed background essays, excellent lesson plans and a rich area
of Educatoršs Resources--including streaming video, which highlights
strategies for teaching with multimedia. The site also provides relevant
links to Frontline, Online NewsHour, NOW with Bill Moyers, Morning Edition,
