The SMUX code haven't been under heavy development since 5.0.9. :-)
Is SMUX support enabled in your agent? The simplest way to check is probably
to start the agent with the -H command line option and check for a string
containing the word smux, so what does

snmpd -H 2>&1 | grep smux

give?
