Yes - that should be fine.
We do try to retain backward compatability from one release to the
next. If nothing else, we simply don't have the resources to re-write
all the MIB modules every time!

MIB modules developed 5.2.x should work quite happily with 5.3.0.1

My immediate reaction would be to look at the access control settings.
That's the most common cause of problems - particularly if you can't
see any of the UCD or Net-SNMP specific MIB objects either.
