Not quite. 5.2.1 doesn't update every second, it only updates when queried.

The 5.3.x rewrite supports the ifXTable with the 64bit counters. Since most
systems are still 32bit, we need to poll the counters every 30 seconds to keep
the 64bit counters correct.

If you don't care about the 64bit counters, simply set cache->timeout to 0 in
ifTable_data_access.c. Then you will get fresh values every time you query.
