The message text didn't talk about the subject much, so...  I will ;-)

It's formally discouraged, certainly...  Deprecated implies we won't
be supporting it at some point in the future and I honestly doubt
that'll be true.  A *lot* of external software relies on the package
and has perfectly good mib code that works that they probably wouldn't
rewrite unless they needed to.  So even if we don't recommend it any
longer, I'd bet surprised if we remove it from default
compiled-in-support for a very very long time.
