Where exactly is this delay occuring?
   In the agent sending out the trap, in snmptrapd receiving it, or before
it is actually logged?

Try running

     snmpd -f -Le -d
                                 in one terminal window, and

     snmptrapd -f -Le -d
                                      in another


You should be able to see the raw packet dump being generated by
the agent, the same packet dump being received by snmptrapd, and
the formatted log entry for that trap.
   How does the timing of these three messages compare?
