The first thing to say is that this is a very old version of the software,
and the 5.1.x line is no longer being supported.

I would strongly suggest that you start by replacing this with a more
recent version, and see if the problems disappear.

Is anything being logged by the trap receiver when it crashes?
What happens if you run this as a foreground process ('-f -Le').
What does this display when the problem occurs?

How quickly are traps arriving?  In one's and two's, or in a constant
rapid stream?

Are these typically all the same trap, or a range of different ones?


It's impossible to suggest what might be going wrong, given the limited
information you've given us to work with.

Please try with a newer version, and see if you can narrow down the
problem at all.
