Thanks. I have been able to resolve the issue. I noticed there was no snmpd.config in the config search paths: path: /usr/local/etc/snmp:/usr/local/share/snmp:/usr/local/lib/snmp://.snmp). So I created one and specified my parameters in one of the paths, /usr/local/share/snmp
Rwcommunity Rocommunity Trapcommunity etc. Then restarted the snmpd service.
