I don't see a problem with that approach as long as:
- your NFS server is rock-solid
- the persistent directory (/var/net-snmp by default) is local
If you're just aiming at a central installation, creating a standard package
(SVR4, RPM, deb etc.) for your boxes may be a viable alternative.
