I came up against this one recently and eventually figured it out myself.
You need to add a timeout to your snmpwalk/get. (-t seconds) Default is 1 second.

I've seen this topic posted once before "exec repeats system call, never returns value". I'm using exec in the snmpd.conf to execute a script. The script is getting called at least 3 times each time I do a snmp walk. Any ideas? I'm seeing this behavior with 5.1.2 and 5.2.1.
