Hi Richard,
I have done that activity in the past. Here are the steps -
1) Compile your MIB using mib2c. This will generate the agent handler modules with stub functions.
2) Write your code inside the stub functions to retrieve the device specific data.
3) run configure with module compilation option .
Example -
./configure --with-mib-modules=”hpProcurve hpProcurveTable "
4) make and make install.
5) run the snmpd on the target machine.
6) use snmpget, snmpset utilities from the management workstation to retrieve the data from snmpd agent.

Hope this helps.
Regards
KM

I am new at this and have many HP Procurve switches.
I know I need to add the appropriate MIBS if I have
this correct. I have downloaded both HP and CISCO
MIBS from the information I found. Before I go
installing anything, I wonder if anyone who has HP
Procurve switches and has added the MIBS can advise
some basic steps for installing and testing this. I
just want to be able to check the cpu status on the
switches and know I need the MIBs but have not done
this and am going through the information about snmp.

Thanks,

Richard
