Any chance that the errant machines are all 64bit?

Any chance that these errant interfaces are gigabit or non-ethernet interfaces?

Try adding an interface specification in your snmpd.conf file for the errant
interfaces. See the man page for the format. You should be able to get the
appropriate type value from walking the ifTable.
