Solaris tar has had a bug in it for as long as I can remember that
causes it to throw this error on very long directory names. Use GNU tar
instead. You can get it from the Contrib CD, or from sunfreeware.com

Subject: 5.2.1 source code tar file corrupt?

Has anyone been able to untar the 5.1.2 source file?

I've tried it from several mirrors and on several machines and get a
directory checksum error every time I try to untar it.
