Make sure you have you have in your configuration file (snmpd.conf) trapsink trap2sink or informsink command with the proper IP Address.

Mske sure that the configuration file is read indeed (there are several locations where snmpd.conf is read).

If both are correct, it still might be a networking problem start a sniffer (like ethereal) and see if the trap is sent or trying to be sent.

Common networking problems :

  1. ARP is not resolved --- You would see ARP request for the destination address that are not resolved.
  2. Default Route is not defined properly on the machine. In this case you’ll see the trap sent twards a router that doesn’t serve the destination subnet.

Hope this helps,

Shuki

Subject: unable to generate traps

Earlier I gave a mail regarding the failure of make test …… net-snmp 5.2.1

I rebuilded it n set the paths n ran it in bash shell it is installed without any errors ……. I could poll …n do snmpwalk, snmpget all these tools r working fine locally n also remotely……now my concern is about trapping them …. I am unable to trap ..i am not getting any errors too

When I checked the log fail its just saying net-snmp 5.2.1 is started …but not trapping any messages…… with the same configuration I could generate traps on another machine ….but only on this system I was unable to install initially n when I did that ,its not generating any traps……I checked with the other server many times n everything works fine with it ...i could see the traps in the log… n its not working here……I need to generate traps n submit my project ASAP n I am struck…..pls help me….

Both these boxes r sun sparc….solaris 9

I appreciate ur prompt response n help…
