Very good things!

Downloaded, compiled, tested, installed, all good - except the memory
leak, which is still quite viable.

Do you have a minimal test case to reproduce this?

For version <= 5.2.2:

Simply install SNMPTT (www.snmptt.org) and add

traphandle default /yourpath/sbin/snmptthandler --init=/yourpath/etc/snmptt.ini

to your snmptrapd.con file, (re)start snmptrapd and watch the leak grow
when traps come in.

make test;
20:testing SNMPv3 snmptrapd USM user management with snmpusm.....FAIL
21:testing SNMPv3 informs (noAuthNoPriv) received and sent by tools.FAIL
22:testing SNMPv3 informs (authNoPriv) received and sent by tools...FAIL
23:testing SNMPv3 informs (authPriv) received and sent by tools...FAIL
24:testing SNMPv3 traps received and sent by tools...FAIL
25:testing SNMPv2c traps received and sent by tools...FAIL

57:testing if snmpnetstat finds the running agent in udpTable....FAIL

Alright, forget about the FAIL crap!

My thought was, "Why am I the only one with this problem? Could it be
related to my configure/make clean/make iterations?", so... I removed
the entire 5.3.pre4 source directory, freshly extracted the tar ball,
configured, compiled, tested, - and it worked out nicely!

Even better, I installed 5.3.pre4, added the "authcommunity" param to
snmptrapd.conf file, started the daemon, and now I finally see incoming
traps in SNMPTT's log file!

And, to continue the good news, the memory leak is also gone (yes, I do
receive traps while monitoring snmptrapd's memory footprint).

All in all, a nice day, IT-wise... :-)

Thank you very much for your help!

Greetings from sunny Auckland,

Holger

(PS: Dankschee, Thomas! ;-))
