I'm very suspicious about this.
count.high should be a 32-bit value
(containing the upper-32 bits of the
full 64-bit value).

The code you show doesn't seem to do this.
I'm no 64-bit expert, but I'm not at all
convinced this is correct.

Hopefully someone more knowledgable than
me will chip in....
