i am using net-snmp-5.2.1 (not v4). And my table only
has 5 columns, not 256. The data entry of my table usually
exceeds 256, i.e. 256 *rows*. So it is not a wide table, it's
a long table. I checked the FAQ, it does not apply to my case.

   Will appreciate further help.
   thanks.

How have you implemented this table?
If you're using the v4 API, please see the
FAQ entry:

How can I support a large table,
with more than 256 column objects?
