Why do you start with something as old as 5.2.2? I'd suggest using
either 5.3.1 (latest release) or 5.4.pre2 (latest pre-release, to be out
later today).

Are you using gcc? The IRIX 6.5 system headers unfortunately don't seem
to build well with gcc, so you'll need the SGI MIPSpro C compiler (cc).
(If anyone knows of a way to do differently, please let us know.)
