Thanks for the reply. 

I checked my /usr/local/share/snmp/mibs folder and the files seem to be
there. It's maybe the way I configured and installed net-snmp or some
environment variable problems. 

I tried installing the net-snmp package using the gnome yum GUI on
another system, and the demoapps seem to work fine. I'll have to do some
more investigating.
