The later lines will typically have greater functionality - i.e. support for additional MIB modules and/or a wider range of O/S's. They may also include new improved re-implementations of older MIB modules. Washes even whiter. The older lines are typically that little bit more stable (having gone through more minor releases to fix bugs in the new features that they introduced). Have a look at the NEWS file in the latest source tarball for each line. That gives you a summary of the most important changes for each release. CHANGES gives a more detailed list, and ChangeLog contains *all* the changes to the code - in much more detail than you really wanted to know!
