I'm trying to get USM authentication and encryption working on an SNMPv3 server, and don't want to store the password in the snmpd.conf file. Due to the way my server works, the contents of the snmpd.conf generated by snmpd are destroyed at a reboot (it's a virtual machine which resets to initial settings on reboot).
What I think I want is to be able to store the 'localized' key on the createUser entry in snmpd.conf using the '-l' flag, but I can find no utility which will take an EngineID and a Password and output a localized key. How do I generate a localized key??? What I'm trying to do is have a central monitoring server with a single password/key which securely contacts the servers being monitored, and the servers being monitored hold no information that would allow somebody with full access to be able to extract monitoring information from another server being monitored. thanks, Anthony Wright. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stay on top of everything new and different, both inside and around Java (TM) technology - register by April 22, and save $200 on the JavaOne (SM) conference, June 2-5, 2009, San Francisco. 300 plus technical and hands-on sessions.
