Hi Dave, Is this the only way to do it? Are there any alternatives other than changing the read_mib function?

Have a look at the source code for 'read_mib' (in the file snmplib/parse.c) You should be able to tweak (a copy of) this to return the module name, rather than the head of the MIB tree.
