Addendum: Even if I run the subagent as root, though it tells me "AgentX
subagent connected", I cannot snmpget the objects that I compiled into
the subagent, instead getting the message:

"MY_MIB::myObjectName = No Such Instance currently exists at this OID"

What might be the cause of this?
