Hi All,

I am using net-snmp 5.6.1. I have come across a weird scenario. I have
trap and agent configuration. I am using snmpv3.

if I keep agent and trap username password credential different then
all works fine. But problem comes when I keep the same user for snmp
agent and trap but having different password. In this case, I can not
access the snmp with agent username/password credentials.
I get "Authentication failure " error. Surprisingly I can access the
snmp through trap username/password credentials which I created
through trapsess.

I scrolled through the code and found that net-snmp maintain the
user-list based on the engine-id and security name. Whereas in above
scenaio, unfortunately both are same. So I suspect, snmpd has
overwritten the trap configuration over agent's as it comes later in
snmpd.conf.

I can get rid of that situation if I put the restriction not to use
same username but my customer doesn't want any restriction. Actually
that is true as well. Because there is no sense to relate with agent
credentials with trap.

I am looking out for it's solution. If anybody has fixed this issue,
can he/she provide me the pointer to the solution? Otherwise I am
planning to fix it. And I welcome any suggestion and experience if
anybody has on this problem to share with me.

Regards,
Anant Garg
