We worked on it on and off for months. It's a difficult piece. Of course the translation had some redundancy. So the below is the result of eliminating all the redundancy with a perl program. The elimination parallels the original writing process in Chinese. The original essay of course is a masterpiece, and important both in traditional Chinese examination culture and the gambling game keno. - Alan
