Blender is a popular free and open source 3D modelling program used by professionals and amateurs for 2D/3D animation, making assets for games, video editing, motion graphics, compositing and more. This workshop, led by Antonio Roberts, will act as an introduction to the software and its features. In this workshop you will be introduced to basic concepts of animation and navigating 3D space, eventually progressing to more advanced concepts and techniques. By the end you will have the skills to create abstract and glitchy looping animations. His practices explore what ownership and authorship mean in an age impacted by digital technology. His work has been featured at galleries and festivals including databit.me in Arles, France (2012), Glitch Moment/ums at Furtherfield Gallery, London (2013), Loud Tate: Code at Tate Britain (2014), glitChicago at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art in Chicago, US (2014), Permission Taken at Birmingham Open Media and University of Birmingham (2015-2016), Common Property at Jerwood Arts, London (2016), Ways of Something at Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2017), Green Man Festival, Wales (2017), Barbican, London (2018), and Copy / Paste at the Victoria and Albert Museum (2019). He has curated exhibitions and projects including GLI.TC/H Birmingham (2011), the Birmingham editions of Bring Your Own Beamer (2012, 2013), µChip 3 (2015), Stealth (2015), No Copyright Infringement Intended (2017). Using the multipurpose Adafruit Circuit Playground Express microcontroller, this hands on workshop will guide you through the process of writing programmes to control sensors, rainbow LEDs and make noise! Please note: this workshop will require you to bring a laptop and install the Mu code editor (instructions will be sent before the workshop and help will be available during the session).
