Please book your free ticket at EventBrite - tinyurl.com/zchoum8 Facebook event - https://www.facebook.com/events/800480170051638 In 1986, a conference gathered in Sheffield to discuss a manifesto proposing cultural democracy. Cultural democracy is a very simple yet powerful idea. It proposes that democracy is never merely "political" and that in a media-drenched society we need to have equal access to the means of cultural input as well as cultural outputs. Who gets to tell the story determines in large part the nature of the story that the rest of us hear. Thirty years later the ideas behind cultural democracy are still powerful and timely. We are gathering at Access Space in Sheffield, UK on June 11 2016 to see if we now have the tools to turn these ideas into action. More info about the context for this event can be found at the Access Space website - tinyurl.com/hnbd6fe The day is led by Dr. Owen Kelly, one of the original conference organisers, and now Principal Lecturer In Online Media at Arcada University, Helsinki, Finland. tinyurl.com/zw7cmeq The original 1986 Culture & Democracy manifesto is downloadable here as a pdf - tinyurl.com/jl7s6g2 Lunch will be provided - please inform us of any dietary needs by Wed 7th June This event is supported by www.pixelache.ac and www.access-space.org -- All the best Jake >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jake Harries, Director of Arts and Innovation www.access-space.org +44(0)114 249 5522 @accessspace facebook.com/accessspace 3-7 Sidney St, Sheffield, S1 4RG, UK j...@access-space.org >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The arts programme at Access Space is supported using public funding by Arts Council England
