Two thoughts:

  you are welcome to build a kernel with it built in and see how that
  goes.  I'd say if it doesn't work that's a bug and patches welcome
  (but it's quite possible I am failing to understand something).

  I think our bootloader can load modules (from the same fs as the
  kernel).
