Could also be a questionable cable that some ports tolerate better than others. I've had cable issues generate soft errors in the past although I've not seen that with any cable made recently.

If you are worried about the drive use atactl to query the SMART data. That data usually indicates a problem long enough before the drive fails to allow for replacement.
